The time has come to sell the Mustang

mustang for sale

Well, the time has finally come. I’ve had a lot of fun with my 1996 Mustang GT over the past three years, but my car fund project is progressing nicely and it’s time to sell the car in preparation for getting something new. I’m not even sure what I’m going to be getting as a replacement at this point, but the most important thing right now is to get the Mustang prepped for sale so I don’t have to worry about it when I’m shopping for something new.

The biggest issue I’m facing at the moment is what to do about all the things that need repairing. Do I fix them now in hopes of selling the car for a higher price, or should I not even worry about it? The front tires are nearly shot, the air conditioning isn’t working, and the drivers seat motor isn’t working as it should (it will go forward, but not back). I know I’ll be able to sell the car for more money if these issues are fixed, but what about time cost? My time is certainly worth something – and not having to spend the time driving around to different repair shops to get these items taken care of is worth a lot to me. Besides, I’m going to have to eat the cost of the repairs either way. I’ll pay for it up front if I get everything fixed now, or I’ll pay when I sell it (in the form of a lower sale price). I think I’m just going to sell it “as-is” to make things easier on my part.

As far as prep goes, I’ll need to do two things. First, I need to get it cleaned. That won’t be hard (it’s really clean already), but I’m going to have to keep it clean as long as it’s for sale. That means weekly washes until it’s gone, which might get a bit expensive. The second thing I need to do is to get it smogged. Here in California, it’s illegal to sell a car that can’t pass a smog test. Fingers crossed that there aren’t any problems there…

I’ve got some travel coming up over the next two weeks which is going to prevent me from listing the car immediately, but regardless, the car is officially for sale right now. Woohoo!
