Day four: February 14, 2004
I slept extremely well that night, and I woke up feeling conflicted. On one hand, I was very excited to know that I’d be in San Diego in just a few hours. On the other hand, I really wasn’t looking forward to getting back into that car. But my desire to put this drive behind me and start my new life in San Diego was strong enough to get my butt in gear and continuing on down I-15 west.
It was a beautiful drive through the San Bernardino National Forest (which is a mountain range actually) and then down into the San Diego area. It felt so good to finally arrive! I made a quick stop at a local Target to pick up a few necessities (laundry soap, food stuffs, etc) before going to sign the lease for my new apartment. The moment I stepped out of the Celica at that apartment complex was the best – that car performed flawlessly over the past four days, and I couldn’t have been happier with it. Yes, it was in dire need of a bath, but that would have to wait until the next morning – there was no way I was going to get back into that car that day.
Looking back on the drive, I wish that I would have taken my time instead of trying to rush through it and get it over with. Also, I wish I would have taken more pictures! It sure would have made this trip report more interesting.
Anyway, I plan to do another cross-country trip soon. Perhaps next spring.
